Legal framework: Government Decision No. 284/20.03.2025

Pursuant to the provisions of Government Decision No. 284/20.03.2025, the update of the NACE codes of legal entities required to be registered with the Trade Registry shall be carried out gradually, an implementation period of 18 months being established for this purpose, commencing on the date of entry into force of an updated NACE version.

Important deadlines

The latest updated NACE version entered into force on 1 January 2025, and, in accordance with the transitional provisions set out under Article II of the aforementioned Government Decision with respect to this NACE version, the legal entities concerned by the amendment are under the obligation to update their corporate documents no later than 25 September 2026.

Until the expiry of the above-mentioned deadline, the use of NACE codes is valid both in the updated version and in the previous version.

Update procedure

Although the update may also be carried out by filing a simple application, without any costs being imposed on the economic operators, in practice, in most cases, the updating of the NACE codes also requires additional amendments to the articles of association, either due to:

  • Significant differences between the old and the new classification
  • Other legal provisions that entered into force between the date of the last amendment of the articles and the date of filing the application for updating the NACE codes
